A stunning example of hypomelanism in Columbian Red Tails, in my opionion. This one arrived on 3/29/06 from Kentucky. Beautiful snake, and an enthusiastic feeder... No contrast or color editing at all! =)

What a beautiful color. And a great shot too. They are bred certain ways to get colors like this, right? Or is this a specific species that has this color naturally?

Usually an abnormally colored specimen is collected from the wild and then bred in captivity to pass on its genes, creating more and more snakes with that phenotype.

Interesting. I wonder if enough breeding could ever get a certain color to become a subspecies or a whole new species. That'd be kinda cool.
